In this panel discussion the political power of black women is explored by drawing comparisons between the female characters in the movie (Nakia, Shuri, etc.) and real-life black female politicians (Kamala, Stacey, etc.) and the issue of provision (or lack) of support and authority given to black women while, at the same time, they are always the one looked to “save the day.” This discussion is immensely timely as we gear up to the 2020 elections and still analyzing the 2018 mid-term election outcome and new wave of WoC sworn in as house reps and senators.
