Policies

Respect The Culture

In creating Wakandacon we imagined a place free and unshackled from the ravages of racism; of exploitation; of discrimination; of emotional, physical, and sexual violence. We request that all attendees uphold and act according to these tenets as long as they are at Wakandacon.

Banned Items Policy

Due to convention venue rules, the following are NOT allowed at Wakandacon.

  • Large or Buggy Strollers. Umbrella, smaller, and foldable strollers are welcome at Wakandacon.
  • Stilts.
  • Roller Skates, rollerblades, and other wheeled footwear.
  • Remote controlled items, such as cars or drones.

“Booth Babe” Policy

Wakandacon has a no “Booth Babe” policy for the purpose of an environment where anyone and everyone can feel comfortable and welcome, and with the focus on Wakandacon and not hired staff.

“Booth Babes” are defined as staff of ANY gender used by any exhibitors used to promote their product at Wakandacon by using overtly sexual or suggestive methods. If for any reason an exhibitor and/or its contents are deemed objectionable to Wakandacon staff, the exhibitors will be asked to alter the attire of its staff.

Wheelchair Policy

Wakandacon is a completely wheelchair accessible convention. If you need special accommodation into getting into the various panels and more, please contact Wakdancon to receive a special medical pass that will allow you to use an assistant while at Wakandacon. The medical pass requires a standard Wakandacon badge for both you and for your assistant, therefore, you both you will still need to purchase Wakandacon badges.

Security Policy

Security will be onsite and present during all times of Wakandacon. We work closely with the venue and security to develop a plan for the safety of all attendees of Wakandacon. While attending Wakandacon we ask that all attendees follow the security measures.

  • All attendees must wear their badges at all time while at Wakandacon.
  • Bags maybe checked during Wakandacon.
  • Any unattended items will be confiscated by security.

Security is present for the safety of all attendees. If you see something, say something. Report anything that is unusual, suspicious, or out of place to a Wakandacon staff or security member immediately.

Weapons Policy

No functional props or weapons are allowed at Wakandacon. Simulated or costume weapons are allowed as a part of costumes, subject to prior approval by convention staff and compliance with the following rules PRIOR to arriving to the convention:

  • Costume weapons made out of metal will NOT be allowed.
  • Sharp implements on costume or on weapons will NOT be allowed.
  • All firearm costume weapons must be rendered inoperable and are required to have an orange safety tip at all times.
  • All bow-type weapons must be unstrung or with a non-bow thread and all prop arrows must have soft blunted tips and are made from foam or cardboard shafts (no metal tips).

Do not swing, strike, or brandish your weapons at other attendees of Wakandacon. If a convention staff member notices such acts you will be first given a warning and if there is a subsequent act we reserve the right to escort you from the premises. We want you to have fun with your costume but to also have Wakandacon be a safe and welcoming con for all. If you have any questions or concerns about the weapons of your costume please do not hesitate to contact Wakandacon.

Illegal Substances Policy

Illegal substances will not be tolerated at Wakandacon. If you are caught buying, using or dealing illegal substances while at the show, remediation steps will be taken. If you are under the influence of legal substances and are in any way interfering with other attendees and their ability to enjoy Wakandacon, we reserve the right to escort you from the premises.

Illegal substances or illegal drugs: Any drug which is not legally obtained as defined by local laws. Any prescribed medication that has not been legally obtained; any prescribed medication not being used in its intended dosage or for its intended purpose; any over-the-counter medication being used at a dosage level other than the recommended manufacturer levels.

Theft Policy

Theft will not be tolerated at Wakandacon. If you are caught stealing from another individual or taking items from any private or public areas of Wakandacon that are not expressly indicated to be free, we reserve the right to escort you from the premises.

Theft: Any crime in which a person intentionally or fraudulently takes personal property of another entity without permission or consent and with the intent to convert it to the taker’s use, including potential sale.

Property: Includes any money or items owned by an entity. Property shall be regarded as belonging to any person or entity having in it any proprietary right or interest.

Violence Policy

Violence will not be tolerated at Wakandacon. Wakandacon adheres to the firm conviction that every person is entitled to an expectation of health and safety and will take action to make that expectation a reality. Violating that expectation of safety through violence or threats of violence perpetrated against another person is explicitly prohibited and will result in removal and remediation.

Violence: Any act of aggression, physical assault or threatening behavior that occurs against a person or property within Wakandacon.

Harassment Policy

Any form of harassment, whether that’s based on gender identity/expression, race, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, or religion, will not be tolerated at Wakandacon. If you are caught or reported to have harassed anyone at Wakandacon, you will go through our reporting process and face remediation steps.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Teasing, jokes, innuendo, photos/images, gestures of a sexual or unwanted nature.
  • The use of slurs, tropes or other words that intend to dehumanize, degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a person or group of people. This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming.
  • Taking photos of others without consent
  • Touching or grabbing of a sexual nature.
  • Physical contact in an unwanted way toward another individual.
  • Repeatedly standing too close to or brushing up against a person.
  • Giving gifts of a sexual or unwanted nature.
  • Unwarranted hostile behavior, threats, or intimidation made toward another individual or groups of people.

Media Policy

All attendees agree that any event at Wakandacon or any Wakandacon-related external event may be photographed, videotaped, or otherwise recorded and memorialized. All attendees hereby grant Wakandacon the right to use or refrain from using the name and/or likeness of any attendee in marketing, media, and promotional materials, for commercial purposes or otherwise. The rights granted herein also include, but are not limited to, the right to promote Wakandacon and any of its associated initiatives with use of information collected during the conference, such as the names, voice recordings, photographs, likenesses, biographical data, and submitted information of any attendee.

Attendees also agree that Wakandacon may designate or sublicense the rights herein to distribute any such recordings or media and that Wakandacon’s designees will have the same rights granted to Wakandacon under this provision.
