It's an honor to announce that Wakandacon is one of the Sun-Times' picks for Chicago's top entertainment stories of 2018! Check out the story here: Chicago Sun-Times. We can't wait to do our city proud again in 2019!

What is Wakandacon?

Wakandacon is something new!

It's an inclusive place where you can be a nerd about anything – pop culture, gaming, tech, womanhood, politics, or your own beautiful Blackness. Wakandacon is a fan-driven convention made to celebrate Black nerds and all of their creativity and passions.

We're building a new kind of cultural event.

Wakandacon is a place where we can dress up, dance, connect, support each other, and celebrate the entire diaspora looking past the present and into our future. While our event is targeted towards establishing a positive and supportive space for black people, Wakandacon is inclusive and all are welcome to come celebrate together.

What's Featured At Wakandacon?

  • Compelling and Thought-Provoking Content

We’re bringing the complex, engaging conversations that are happening online and in the media to life. From cosplay to community organizing, there’s no limit to what we can discover.

  • Exciting Gaming and Tournaments

Wakandacon has it all. Hear from panelists on their experience in the gaming industry, enjoy the stacked gaming room, play in tournaments, and more!

  • Engaging Meet & Greets and Networking

Wakandacon is a place to meet and connect with each other. Enjoy networking hours, intimate chats, and discussions with fellow attendees and panelists.

  • Amazing Cosplay and Afro-Fashion

Want to be your favorite superhero? Rock Afro-futuristic Eleganza? Or create your own unique look? Wakandacon is the Blackest, nerdiest fashion show, so show up and show out!

  • Vibrant Small-business Marketplace

Books. Jewelry. Art. Our marketplace features Black business-owners from across the world sharing their passions and products. In 2018, we featured over 70 unique small businesses!

  • Spark Your Creativity

Wakandacon is the place to try something new. Last year, we cosplayed, learned how to pitch original TV & film ideas, and learned stunt choreography from a real Jabari warrior! What will we learn this summer?

  • Lit After-Parties and Special Events

The Decolonizing Comedy special featuring Chris Redd and the official Wakandacon after party were the exciting events that we put on last year outside of the con. Let's see how we top that this year!

  • Family Friendly Fun for All Ages

At Wakandacon we understand that your little one might be your plus one. Enjoy kid friendly events throughout the weekend - even the littlest of our tribe can have fun at Wakandacon.

  • Inclusive and Uncompromisingly You

Wakandacon is the con where you can be a nerd about anything. Fashion, pop culture, gaming, activism - come explore or discover something new!

Our event is open to everyone!

We hope that people of all backgrounds will come and have fun at Wakandacon! We do want to note that almost all of the content will be focusing on the Black experience and will be from the point of view of almost exclusively Black people. There will be political and cultural conversations that are centering Black voices. Hearing some of those conversations will probably be eye-opening and very enlightening if those conversations aren't regularly happening in your circle. For some of those conversations and discussions, there may not be many non-Black people in the room.

Any non-Black attendees should be aware that their voices may not be centered and much of the experience might not speak directly to them. It should go without saying but sometimes it still must be said - we hope that all attendees of any background or race will be respectful and come with an open mind.

We welcome everyone, and hope that everyone will learn something new and share ideas.
